Spotlight: Antoni Gaudí

One thing I couldn’t not do during my weekend trip to Barcelona was go to Park Güell. This beautiful park is the design of architect Antoni Gaudí. Built between 1900 and 1914 it is an example of Catalan modernism. While walking through the park you can tell Gaudí was inspired by nature and organic shapes. The ornate mosaic work throughout the park is truly awe inspiring.

Another must see site I had to visit was La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, also designed by Antoni Gaudí. The cathedral is an example of traditional gothic architecture with a nature inspired twist. Gaudí also played with color and light, adding to the uniqueness of the cathedral.

Another example of remarkable and breathtaking architecture.

Given the ornate and decorative nature of La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, I thought it would be interesting to explore fashion designs, such as the Hervé Léger 2015 New York Fashion Week collection, that were inspired by the cathedral's colorful geometric shapes and natural silhouettes.

You can see that the colors of the cathedral's stained glass windows are reflected onto the colors of these three designs below.

In this collection Max Azria takes Hervé Léger's famous sensual silhouettes and created designs with bold colors that combine natural shapes, such as flower petals, with geometric lines. Gouda's extraordinary work is clearly represented in the uniqueness of this collection.

The classic Hervé Léger bandage dress was one of the dress styles appearing on the catwalk however, intricate lace detailing and interesting cutouts gave the well known style a new twist.
